A former winner of the Partnership Trust European Language Award for its innovative and pioneering courses, the Department’s modules in the field of technology enhanced learning are particularly popular. Students from over 40 countries follow Welsh language modules or modules on Welsh history or literature in the Department. The essence of the success of this method of learning is its flexibility – it is possible to register for one or two individual modules or complete a degree in Welsh or Welsh Studies totally online with the support of a personal tutor.
Another highly successful element of the Department’s work is its intensive language courses. The fine university campus, based in the heart of the market town of Lampeter, provides a useful base for such courses and the welcoming local shops offer ample opportunities for learners to practice their new skills! Weekend and week long courses are available, with classes for all levels from beginners to advanced, together with occasional subtitling and translation courses.

In 2006 the Department launched a new distance learning MA in Celtic Studies which is proving extremely popular. The Department also has several MPhil and PhD students, both part time and full time and the academic staff are recognised authorities in their chosen fields in which they have published extensively.
We will be launching a number of new campus based undergraduate degree schemes in the summer of 2010. The focus will primarily be on vocational fields such as subtitling, translation and education. More details will appear on the website in due course.
