Originally from north Pembrokeshire, Christine specialises in applied linguistics, sociolinguistics and dialectology. She has published several articles and books in these fields and is particularly interested in promoting Welsh to adults as a research field, to help ensure national and international importance to teaching Welsh as a second language. In light of her extensive experience in this field, she has prepared a wide range of teaching materials for learners of all ages and abilities.

She is co-author of the highly successful Multi Media Welsh A/B language courses, the flagship internet modules of the Department of Welsh. She is also co-author of the book Teach Yourself Welsh, popular with learners all over the world.

Christine is also an experienced research supervisor and is currently supervising 7 MPhil or PhD students - primarily in the fields of applied linguistics and sociolinguistics. She also teaches two modules on the MA in Celtic Studies, namely the Sociolinguistic History of Welsh and the Celts, as well as supervising those who choose to do their MA dissertations in these fields.

Christine was Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales Lampeter during the academic year 2008-9 and represents the University on a number of external committees. She is also a member of various internal committees such as the University Council, the Senate and the Welsh Medium Teaching Committee.

She has a particular interest in Staff Development and is Director of the University’s Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education. She is also External Examiner for the national Teaching Welsh to Adults qualification (administered by Cardiff University) and the Foundation Degree in Translation (Glyndŵr University).
