Aim
The course is designed to give learners a basic knowledge of the Welsh language.  It presumes that students have no or very limited knowledge of the language at the outset.     

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • communicate orally with a sympathetic Welsh-speaker on a range of everyday situations such as personal details, the weather, hobbies etc
  • demonstrate an appreciation of basic spoken Welsh patterns and grammar
  • understand the oral content of a selection of simple recorded material.

Content                     
Basic linguistic patterns will be introduced and reinforced by sound files and video clips. Students will undertake communicative exercises, interactive exercises and translation exercises under the supervision of a personal tutor.

Assessment
Continual assessment via linguistic based exercises on the syllabus.
