The Centre for the Study of Religion in Celtic Societies was established on 1 March 1999 to promote the study of the religious dimension in the Celtic-speaking cultures of the early, medieval and modern periods. The Centre is made up of members of staff at the University of Wales Lampeter, as well as patrons and corresponding members in Wales and abroad.

In 2007, St David of Wales - Cult, Church and Nation was published. The book is edited by Centre Director Jonathan Wooding and Wyn Evans, Bishop of St Davids see: Boydell and Brewer Publishers

Launch of Ireland and Wales in the Middle Ages - On 20 June 2007 the Irish Consul General to Wales launched the book Ireland and Wales in the Middle Ages, edited by two Centre academics. Read more here

In 2005 Lampeter was the recipient of a grant of £325,000 from the Arts and Humanities Research Council for a project on ‘Interpreting the Bible and its Visual Expression within the Cultural Landscape of Wales, 1825-1975’. Dr Martin O’Kane of the Dept of Theology and Religious Studies is the team leader of this project in collaboration with the National Library and National Museum. More ...

In May 2005 Dr Penny Dransart receives the award of a research assistant  from the Board of Celtic Studies for her project on Ecclesiastical Vestments in Medieval Wales.

In July 2004 Dr Karen Jankulak was  elected to the Comité d’Animation Scientifique of the Centre International de Recherche et de Documentation sur le Monachisme Celtique (CIRDoMoC) More ...
