General Information

Residential students

Messages to students will be sent by email.  The Department will use your Lampeter e-mail address for any correspondence.  Please do make sure that you check your e-mail regularly and make sure that your inbox is not full.  Postgraduate student pigeonholes are outside the Departmental office.

Departmental notices will be posted on the main notice-boards.  The postgraduate student notice-board can be found outside the Departmental Office.  It is your responsibility to check these regularly.

Staff pigeonholes are located in the Departmental Office.

Distance students

Distance learners keep in close contact with their tutors.  Every effort will be made by the staff to keep in contact with the non-resident students, to mail coursework as appropriate and reply to e-mails.

Please ensure that any changes of address or e-mail address are given to the Departmental Administrator as well as to the Academic Registry.

Tutorial Arrangements

Every student, whether you study on campus or at a distance, is assigned to a Personal Tutor.  This tutor’s role is to provide a general oversight of a student’s personal and academic well-being and to provide advice on a wide range of issues.  Please note that all conversations or correspondence of a personal nature are confidential.

Central to the personal tutor’s role is discussing the student’s academic performance during the Compulsory Tutorial Weeks (please see calendar for dates).  Students MUST see their Personal Tutor during each of these weeks.  Arrangements for this Distance students will be contacted by their Personal Tutors once a term to discuss their progress.

If you want to consult your Personal Tutor on any issue, please make an appointment via phone or email, via the Departmental Administrator, or, if you are a residential student, come and see them during their surgery hours.

You will be contacted by your Personal Tutor in the first instance if your studies are giving cause for concern.

The Department also has a Welfare Officer, Magdalena Öhrman, and you are welcome to consult her instead of your Personal Tutor if you feel it would be more appropriate.
