MA (Barcelona), PhD (Barcelona)

My main research focuses on ancient economy and epigraphy, particularly on financial and commercial activities in ancient Rome. I have also interests in the study of Roman material culture,  above all in trade and consumption of luxury items during the Roman Empire and in Late Antiquity. My PhD was devoted to the socio-economic and cultural impact of auctions in the Roman world (published 2005). I have recently co-organised (with S. Knippschild) the colloquium Just for Show! Displaying Wealth and Performing Status in Classical Antiquity (Bristol 2009) and worked on the project on the use of ancient Italic sanctuaries as market places. A further area of my research is the reception of Antiquity in the Performing and Visual Arts, particularly in cinema (I am coordinator of the international conferences and series Imagines). Before joining the Classics Department at Lampeter, I held lectureship positions in Leicester and Dresden and post-doctoral and post-graduate fellowships in Heidelberg, Paris and Barcelona.
