Welcome to the Department of Film and Media at the University of Wales, Lampeter. In these pages you will find details about the Department, the Film Studies, Media Studies & Media Production courses that we offer, and what makes our students so successful. Our graduates have gone into a wide range of media jobs, working for the likes of the Walt Disney, BBC, Framestore, Sky, and independent television production companies, or become Web Designers, Animators, and 3D Designers in companies across the globe. Others have secured places on sought-after postgraduate programmes such as the MA Filmmaking course at the London Film School and other courses across the UK.

Situated in beautiful West Wales, the Department of Film and Media offers an invigorating alternative to large urban universities. We combine cutting edge technologies and modern student-centered teaching with over 175 years of tradition. In fact Lampeter dates back to 1822 and is the third oldest university institution in England and Wales, next to Oxford and Cambridge Universities. In this unique context the Department offers hands-on practical Film and Media Studies alongside challenging academic courses taught by recognised researchers in the field.
Our students have access to the latest digital technology, which counts as some of the best in Wales. Facilities include a purpose-built modern Media Centre, an Outside Broadcast Unit, Digital Subtitling facilities and a state of the art Macintosh Computer Suite. While these match current industry standards our final year filmmakers and postgraduate students also have access to our brand new High Definition dual screen video editing suite. With small class sizes, students have dedicated access to the facilities, and excellent technical support and tuition.
Awards
The Department offers four named awards at undergraduate level, spanning Media Production, Film Studies and Media Studies
Each Film and Media degree is organised on a modular basis. This means that you can tailor your studies to fit your own strengths and interests, across practical media production modules and academic ones in Film and Media Studies. At all stages in your degree you will receive expert and personal advice on the paths you take, and how to make the best of the unique choice of courses we offer.
The department also offers a wide range of Joint Honours schemes in conjunction with other departments.
