4 Personally-Owned Software

The definition of Personally-Owned Software covers all software programs licensed in the name of any User.

Such software will not normally be approved for installation on UWL-owned Hardware.

In exceptional circumstances, and subject to:

  • the User having a justifiable need for the use of this software in their academic work
  • the production of a valid licence expressly permitting the installation of the software on more than one PC (it will always be assumed that the User has already installed one copy of the software on a personally owned PC)
  • the production of original media
  • in the case of a member of staff, their line manager approves the request and is unable to purchase a licence for the software due to it no longer being on sale

the Manager of Computing Services may approve the installation of such software.

UCS will normally retain the original media and license documentation for the period that such software is installed on UWL-owned hardware.

Only Technicians or other Users who have obtained the express written consent of the Manager of Computing Services may install, configure or uninstall any software on UWL-owned hardware.
