The Research Institute of Archaeology, History and Anthropology, one of four research institutes at the University of Wales Lampeter, brings together the often complementary research interests within these three disciplines. The Research Institute currently has 17 full-time academic staff, and a postgraduate school of 15 research students studying for MPhil and PhD degrees. For teaching and administrative purposes, Archaeology and Anthropology are a single Department while History is a separate Department. The administrative centre of the Research Institute is the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, whilst the Institute Director, Janet Burton is a member of the Department of History. The Research Institute aims to produce work of the highest intellectual quality and, in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, to generate a research profile that will be judged to be of international excellence ‘in terms of originality, significance and rigour’.
