Happy New Year to all!

The second term is now in full swing in spite of the snow and we hope everyone returned well rested after the Christmas break.

Christmas Office Decorating Competition

I am thrilled to say thanks to all the joint hard work put in by the Student Support Office and Employability Unit, we were joint winners with the Library, who we offer our congratulations.

The teams worked together to create decorations all from recycled materials. There was a cosy fireplace made by Angela, a catwalk of fairies made by Blue, paper chains by Tamara, Tree decorations by Victoria as well as snowflakes, a snowman, nativity scene and many more.

Christmas Do

This year we decided that we would have a real Christmas do. We organised to go to the Falcondale Party Night for dinner and dancing.

It was a great chance for everyone to meet in a social situation, get dressed up and have fun.

The evening started with conversation over drinks followed by a delicious dinner and ended with some great dancing. I’m pleased to say nearly everyone had a go at strutting their stuff in the dance floor.

All in all I think everyone had a good time and it was a real pleasure seeing the team relax and let their hair down and a great way to start the Christmas Holiday.

Welcome!

We have many new additions to the Support team this year. We have a new volunteer counsellor, Karen Whiteside who is also studying Psychotherapy who will bring new skills to the team. Sylvia Fairclough has joined us as a Specialist Dyslexia Tutor, and we have a few new Buddies: James Symons, Kim Field and Kim Eames. Finally, we have a new note taker Jenny Cavill join the note taking pool.  We would like to extend a warm welcome to them all and thank them for the great work they have done so far and look forward to work with them further.

Farewell!

It feels like only yesterday I was joining the Student Support Office team as receptionist and secretary, but 16 months later I regret to inform I am bidding you all farewell. I am leaving to take a full time post working for the Employability Unit, providing support for the Graduate Academy. Although I am excited by this new opportunity, I will be very sad to leave Student Support. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting our students and feel fortunate to have belonged to one of the most inspiring teams I have ever come across, lead by a superb manager, Victoria Wade who I have to give extra thanks.  It has been a real pleasure and I am glad to have been a part of it. I will miss working alongside everyone but fortunately, as I am only moving over to the Old Building, and will be sure to see many of you regularly.
