UWTSD Swansea College of Art is proud to announce the launch of the ground-breaking Metadisruption - AI International Art & Design Festival due to take place on September 16, 2024.  A pioneering event that brings together the world’s most innovative AI-generated art in a variety of categories, ranging from film, photography, music, painting, and product design.

An example of the work which will be displayed in the exhibition.

Organised by a group of accomplished doctorate students enrolled in the Professional Doctorate in Art and Design programme, and the master’s students enrolled on the MA Art & Design programme at UWTSD Swansea College of Art.  The festival promises to push the boundaries of contemporary art and technology. The festival aims to provide a platform for AI-generated creativity and exploration. This future looking festival will explore the relationship between artificial intelligence and artistic expression, featuring a diverse array of thought-provoking works that challenge traditional notions of art and creativity.

Kylie Boon, lecturer on the MA and Professional Doctorate in Art and Design programmes said: “We are excited to introduce this festival, it represents a bold step forward in acknowledging AI integration and artistic expression.  Our aim is to offer a platform for AI-generated art to be appreciated and celebrated.”

The festival will feature a series of online exhibitions, and screenings, designed to engage and inspire attendees. The festival encourages both established and emerging artists, as well as enthusiasts who are eager to explore AI-driven creativity and celebrate it.

Yueyao Hu, lecturer on the MA and Professional Doctorate in Art and Design programmes said: “It’s undeniable that digital technology exerts a multi-faceted influence on our societal culture. As we navigate through an increasingly digital world, it’s crucial for individuals, especially students, to engage in critical analysis. Through the Metadisruption International AI Art Festival, we hope to inspire students to engage in critical analysis, enabling them to discern the cultural landscape shaped by digital technology and its profound effects on their creative pursuits. We believe that the convergence of AI and art has the potential to revolutionise the way we approach creativity and expression.”
